Merit is a proud participant in the gold seal program. The following courses, designed for management and supervisory staff, are gold seal accredited:


Contract Law

This three-day course will familiarize owners, managers, supervisors and project managers with construction contracts and contract law; liabilities and responsibilities of all parties to a contract; compiling and submitting proper extras and claims; and ways and means for leaders to avoid conflict with contracts, owners, trades and labour. 

Gold Seal accredited with a value of 5 points. 


Project Planning & Cost Control

This three-day course is designed to provide participants with a working knowledge of the process of planning a project from the beginning to end, utilizing ways and means of monitoring, saving, and controlling costs. Participants are expected to complete homework assignments and write an exam at the end of day 3.

Gold Seal accredited with a value of 2 points.

Project Management - General


Merit’s Project Management course is designed for the construction industry.  It will provide participants the tools to build strong management, leadership and business skills to effectively manage all aspects of a construction project.

This course will appeal to assistant project managers, estimators, supervisors, superintendents and project managers.

Leadership skills are reinforced through case studies, hands-on activities, group projects and team building exercises.  In addition, participants will share valuable information and work experiences with fellow colleagues across Canada.

Professional instructors with extensive experience in the construction industry provide a wealth of knowledge and expert instruction.

This intensive 5-day course will be held at the world renowned Banff Centre, in beautiful Banff, Alberta.

Recommended Pre-Requisites:  Principles of Health & Safety Management and Leadership for Safety Excellence.

Gold seal accredited for 10 points and Blue Seal accredited 64 hours.

Fees:
Merit member:  $3,100 incl gst (due in full at time of application)
Non-member:  $4,400 incl gst (due in full at time of application)

Project Management - Electrical and Mechanical

This course, developed by electrical and mechanical contractors and Purdue University faculty in Indiana, is designed specifically to meet the needs of electrical and mechanical contractors.

Owners, project managers, estimators, superintendents and any employee involved in managing projects will receive an in depth look at how to successfully execute all aspects of electrical and mechanical projects.  Class content specifically focuses on real examples and case studies provided by contractors in both trades.

Gold Seal Certification

Gold Seal is a national certification program for project managers, superintendents and estimators developed by the Canadian Construction Association. Similar to the Red Seal program for journeyman tradespeople, Gold Seal is a declaration of skill and competence recognized across Canada. To become certified, candidates must have at least three years of experience and a minimum of 100 Gold Seal certification points. Points are allocated for work, trade and related management experience, education and the completion of designated industry training courses.
