NEW - Safety Courses
Merit is committed to training Merit Companies and their employees in order to develop, both skilled and safe workers in our industry. Recent surveys regarding our training have shown a growing demand for safety and first aid courses from our members. In order to meet this request as of January 2011, Merit will be regularly offering Certification and Recertification in Standard First Aid, WHMIS, and Fall Protection. Courses will be offered at Merit’s Edmonton Location. All course dates can be found on the website's Training and Events Calendar.
Standard First Aid – This two-day (16 Hour) course covers all the skills in Emergency First Aid plus first aid for other injuries and illnesses including head and spinal injuries, as well as fractures of the upper and lower limbs. This course includes Level C CPR certification (Adult, Child, and Infant resuscitation) and AED instruction and certification
Standard First Aid Recertification – This one-day (7.5 Hour) course is intended for those who have a current Standard First Aid – Level C certificate and includes a review of essential skills with a focus on theoretical and practical skills testing. Includes Level C CPR and AED recertification. Previous course must have been the complete Standard First Aid – Level C CPR course.
Fall Protection - This program was created by the Fall Protection Group Inc. and is designed to give workers an understanding and hands on experience of working with fall protection equipment. Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) and the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) approved.
Confined Spaces Safety Awareness - This course is available online through the Construction e-Learning Centre. Upon completing the course, participants will be able identify types of confined spaces, recognize potential hazards, assess and control hazards and understand their roles and responsibilities prior to entry, while working and when leaving a confined space.
WHMIS Certification - This online course offers comprehensive WHMIS training for workers involved in manufacturing or working with or near hazardous materials. The course covers labelling, material safety data sheets (safe use, handling and storage), total and partial exemptions and employer and employee responsibilities.
