Annual Merit Awards

Merit’s Annual General Meeting will be held at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton on Tuesday, June 12. This will be followed by an AGM luncheon in Calgary at the Best Western Port of Call on Wednesday, June 13.

Merit’s AGMs allow members to catch up on association news, learn about future plans and network with fellow members while enjoying a first-class banquet.

Both sessions will honour the recipients of 2012 Merit Awards. Read below for details on the four awards.

Merit Contractors Association Scholarship Program

Merit recognizes the importance of post-secondary education — whether it's university, college or technical training. As a result, Merit offers a scholarship program that will help the children of employees of Merit member companies pay expenses in the first year of their post-secondary program, including apprenticeship technical training. Merit will contribute $750 to 80 students who have completed high school and are beginning their first year studies.

The Merit Contractors Association Scholarship is awarded on the basis of grade 12 academic standing and proof of enrolment for their first year of post-secondary education. These students must be the children of employees participating in the Merit salaried or hour bank plan. In addition, students must be under 23 years of age as of the deadline.

The scholarship is for one year and will apply to any accredited post-secondary institution.

We received 65 applications for post-secondary scholarships in 2011, all of which were approved. Merit is currently processing the cheques, which will be delivered to applicants in mid-February 2012.

Details on the 2012 scholarship application process as well as the application form will be made available in early fall of this year.
