Construction Skills Training

Designed for construction workers looking to acquire or upgrade their skills in specific areas, Construction Skills Training (CST) programs offer individual courses on a variety of construction topics. Courses include classroom instruction and, where practical, hands-on training. Courses can be applied towards certification for Alberta Apprenticeship’s Construction Craft Labourer occupation. Courses are normally scheduled twice a week in the evenings. Courses may also be available in-house or at regional colleges if there is sufficient interest. Programs may be customized and provided in remote locations and/or job sites.

The cost of each program is based on the number of hours of training:
  6-12 hour courses Member $183.00/Non-Member $286.00
13-24 hour courses Member $223.00/Non-Member $325.00
25-30 hour courses Member $248.00/Non-Member $350.00

Blueprint Reading I (24 hours)

An introductory course to help employees become more knowledgeable and skilled in interpreting architectural and mechanical drawings.

Blueprint Reading II (24 hours)

A more advanced blueprint reading course that addresses grid lines and coordinates, abbreviations, technical terms, specifications, estimating and how to interpret architectural drawings.

Rigging & Hoisting (30 hours)

This course covers the identification and safe use of various rigging & hoisting equipment, methods of hook-up, rigging practices and hand signals. Derrick and crane equipment will also be covered.

Scaffolding (8 hours)

Frame scaffold is the focus of this eight-hour course delivered through a combination of classroom and practical training. Compliant with the General Safety Regulation for Scaffold.

Scaffolding (16 hours)

This course identifies and explains Frame, Tube & Clamp and Systems scaffold as well as the safe erection, inspecting & tagging, dismantling, and storage of components and accessories. Compliant with the General Safety Regulation for Scaffold.

Surveying I (24 hours)

A look at the basic theory and practice of leveling, different types of surveys, common sources of error and field note keeping. Included is instruction on using tilting levels, laser levels and leveling rods.

Surveying II (24 hours)

This advanced surveying course included instruction on using circular curves on centerline, offset baselines, vertical curves, trigonometric leveling, topographic surveys, slope staking and municipal surveys for installation of water and sewer mains.
