An interactive, CD-ROM based safety-training system developed by the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA), CSTS offers a basic overview of construction health and safety procedures including WHMIS. Completion of this program is mandatory on many jobsites in Alberta. For Merit member firms who require CSTS training for 5 or more employees, Merit will provide a laptop that can be borrowed free of charge for one to two week periods. For 4 or less employees, bookings can be made with ACSA in Edmonton and Calgary or, in other areas of the province, through various colleges and associations.
Course topics: The Law at Work, Machinery Tools & Equipment, Workplace Hazards, Excavating & Trenching, Mobile Equipment, Emergency response, Working with Chemicals (WHMIS), Environmental Factors, Personal Physical Care, Alcohol & Drug guidelines, Ladders & Scaffolding, and Personal Protective Equipment.
