Advocacy

WE ARE ADVOCATES FOR OPEN SHOP CONSTRUCTION

Merit Contractors Association knows that it is in the best interests of our members to ensure that the laws and rules for construction are fair and transparent. That’s why we diligently advocate for our members with governments and other stakeholders. The time for advocating isn’t once the new legislation is introduced, it is while government is developing new rules. Merit’s advocacy team monitors events as they happen, analyze their impact, provide input, and makes sure that our members are informed in a timely way on the issues and changes that make a difference in their operations and success. Technical input and face to face information is the best method to make sure that the voices of open shop construction are heard on infrastructure, labour, employment standards, OHS, apprenticeship, taxes, and the economy.

Advancing Open Shop

Our members are busy building Alberta’s hospitals, schools and homes. They don’t have time to attend extra meetings, read through pages of long documents and speak to legislators. Merit Contractors Association has decades of government relations experience, and represent our industry on several committees. As representatives for our busy members, our knowledgeable staff examine policies and legislation to highlight important information that we always pass along to our members and their employees.

"We have always been appreciative and supportive of Merit’s vocal presence and advocacy at the Provincial Government level for open shop construction. From the personal touch provided by our local representative to the annual general meetings, Merit has been an integral part of our operation since the beginning."
Richard Munro – Vice President of Construction
